The Test:
The SARS-CoV-2 surface test uses Eurofins VIRSeek SARS-CoV-2 Ident kit technology for the specific detection of the COVID-19 virus on environmental and food surfaces via real-time RT-PCR. The test is reported qualitatively as Detected or Not Detected. (QA-11098). This service can be requested as add-on for “Presumptive” samples in the PCR-Coronavirus (CoV) Screen test to confirm that the detected virus RNA is indeed from the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus.
The Sample:
The importance of sampling being done by an industry certified inspection professional is important. Concerns such as Cross-Contamination are crucial to ensuring accurate results. During the process a number of surface areas (25 cm²) are being sampled and sent to the lab for testing. The number of samples is based on a variety of factors with input being provided by the EPA and WHO.
The Result:
In the current coronavirus outbreak, companies and health authorities are seeking solutions to monitor the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in their environments in order to be able to implement immediate sanitation and other measures to protect the health and safety of employees and their environment. We only recommend a test after a thorough, professional cleaning and sanitizing of the affected area(s) by properly trained professionals. Following this cleaning and sanitizing, GHP conducts a COVID-19 surface clearance test to ensure cleaning was performed successfully.
